Newt and Herman: The Producers

The theme of the producers was to find a script that was sure to fail, raise far more money than was needed from gullible old ladies and then walk away with their money when the production flops on opening night,

The scalawags produce a musical called Springtime for Hitler written by escaped Nazi Franz Liebken.

However, the play is so awful that it becomes a comedy sensation. The producers end up in jail which is exactly where grifters Newt and Herman belong.

The Producers (2005) was actually a remake or the original. The new version stared Nathan Lane, Mathew Broderick and Uma Thurman. Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder were in the 1968 original.
