Freedom from religion or freedom based on religion?

Mitt Romney said this in 2007:

Freedom requires religion, just as religion requires freedom. Freedom opens the windows of the soul so that man can discover his most profound beliefs and commune with God. Freedom and religion endure together, or perish alone.

Rightardia guesses Romney never heard about freedom from religion. Freedom from religion opens the mind so a person can see the world as it truly is, not one based on superstitious myths or the babbling of false "American prophets."
