The Rubios' came to the US for economic reasons and tried to return to Cuba after the socialist revolution. Rubio claims he government of Cuba did not allow the Rubio family to be repatriated
Rubio says his mother ands father were exiles, but they were not.
Did Rubio gain politically by connecting himself to the post-revolution exile community rather than the with pre-Castro exodus, a group sometimes viewed with suspicion.
Rightardia believes that is the case.
Rubio responded to the Washington post article that outed him. Rubio noted in the letter that his family visited Cuba on several occasions after the revolution.
Rubio said in the letter:
If The Washington Post wants to criticize me for getting a few dates wrong, I accept that. But to call into question the central and defining event of my parents’ young lives – the fact that a brutal communist dictator took control of their homeland and they were never able to return – is something I will not tolerate.
But Rubio is missing the point. His family didn't leave Cuba because of Castro. Castro wasn't even in Cuba in 1957. Rubio's family did not lose their home and business because of Castro. His family left before the Cuban revolution started.
Marco Rubio is not the son of a the post-revolution exile family. He is a fraud.
What is exile?
Dictionary.com says exile is expulsion from one's native land by authoritative decree.
Wikipedia says exile means to be away from one's home such as a city, state or country, while either being explicitly refused permission to return and/or being threatened with imprisonment or death upon return. It can be a form of punishment.
Neither definition applies to Rubio's parent because they left Cuba as American citizens and moved to the mainland. Rubio's parents were not under any under Cuban legal restrictions on their right of return when they left their homeland.
