WH Blog: Your 2010 Federal Taxpayer Receipt

In his State of the Union Address, President Obama promised that this year, for the first time ever, American taxpayers would be able to go online and see exactly how their federal tax dollars are spent.

Just enter a few pieces of information about your taxes, and the taxpayer receipt will give you a breakdown of how your tax dollars are spent on priorities like education, veterans benefits, or health care.

This is a useful tool and will give Americans an idea of just where there tax dollars are going. Do you think private enterprise could do a better job than Medicare or Social Security? Internationally, medical care is predominantly a government function because it eliminates the middle man, the insurance company.

Attempts to privatize Social Security when Margaret Thatcher was prime Minister failed and pensioners lost half of their retirement assets. Similar efforts in Chile also failed. Both countries now have public pension systems for seniors.
