RDT has written an excellent article on this topic of why Americans permit the bizarre economics of our country. RDT asks:
So why aren’t the American People in the streets?
Most Americans don’t realize how severe our income inequality has become.
One study found that “Americans thought the richest 20 percent of our society controlled about 59 percent of the wealth, while the real number is closer to 84 percent.”
Trickle Down economics is a failure that turned America into the LEAST upwardly mobile with the widest gap between rich and poor of all industrialized nations.
The people who run the GOP, the country clubbers, are an organized, militant and well-funded oligarchs. They refresh their ranks with college graduates that have been members of fraternities and sororities. Although most of these people are Republicans, many are also influential in the Democratic Party.
Proof of the pudding is that there should have been some big changes after Obama was elected, but few materialized.
The Republicans have been launching class warfare infowars since World War 2. They have tinkered with the educational system to make it non-controversial and have interfered with the electoral process in the US by creating irrational voting districts and by changing voting laws to make it harder to vote.
These people have an elitist view of themselves and America and few believe that America is a democracy. Most want corporate control of American politics and they have been successful in subverting the government to kowtow to the county clubber oligarchy.
FDR correctly understood the threat of these corporatists and correctly called them fascists. Many Democrats today have failed to heed FDR's warning.
