Many Democrats disliked Bush because he was an oaf and an ideologue. The Major, who once was a Republican , never had the same intense animus for George HW Bush.
Why do many Republicans dislike or disrespect Obama? It's either because he is black or because he is a Democratic president. He is presidential timber unlike GW Bush who was clearly never up to the task.
GW Bush was nominated for the presidency because of his family ties and county club cronyism.. His election even surprised immediate family members.
