The FBI tracked tracked a college student without warrant using GPS tracking device. His case is now in the US Supreme Court. His legal team says such devices should not be authorized without a warrant. The FBI disagrees because cars are used on public highways.

This GPS tracking device is large and should be easy to spot if one is under your car. It was attached with magnets.
This is the sort of thing that has emboldened law enforcement since the Patriot Act was signed.
