House Democratic Leader asks Florida Chamber of Commerce about jobs bill
April 1, 2011
Mark Wilson
President & CEO
Florida Chamber of Commerce
136 S. Bronough Street
Tallahassee, FL 32302-3309
RE: House Bill 5001, General Appropriations Act
Dear Mr. Wilson:
I wish to bring to the attention of the Florida Chamber of Commerce House Bill 5001, the General Appropriations Act, which was approved earlier this week by the House Appropriations Committee and is expected to be heard on the House floor Wednesday (April 6) and scheduled for a vote on Thursday (April 7).
The Act contains provisions that I believe the Chamber should find objectionable. It includes a $330 million sweep from the Transportation Trust Fund, which, according to transportation builders, will result in a loss in excess of 20,000 jobs.
Since the Chamber has expressed support and opposition to various bills in the Florida Legislature this session, I strongly suggest that the Chamber take a position in opposition to HB 5001, and to place it on this session’s Chamber Report Card for legislators.
Please let me know as soon as possible your position on my request.
Sincerely,
Ron Saunders
House Democratic Leader
