Pro-labor protesters continued to loudly beat drums and chant against the bill gutting collective bargaining rights for public workers as Wisconsin Governor

Pro-labor protesters continued to loudly beat drums and chant against the bill gutting collective bargaining rights for public workers as Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker delivered his budget speech to the state legislature – minus the 14 Wisconsin Democratic State Senators.
WORT radio News Director Molly Stentz could hear the protesters during Walker’s speech.
Molly Stentz: “You could still hear the protest chants coming in through the building, even with the doors closed, particularly when they had the prayer and when they had a moment of silence it was very loud.
You could her people chanting ‘recall Walker’.”
The capitol was much more locked down today with a heavy state patrol presence. Only about a hundred protesters were allowed to be in the rotunda ground floor during Walker’s speech.

Republicans stacked the crowd inside the legislature – including the gallery that normally holds a public audience - with Walker supporters who cheered him to provide a pro-Walker backdrop to media coverage of his speech.
This all despite a court order from a county judge to keep the capitol open to the public.  Democratic lawmakers remained seated during several standing ovations given to Walker by Republican members of the legislature.
Walker threatened “massive layoffs” of teachers and other public workers unless Democratic state senators return to pass his budget bill, which includes two billion dollars in cuts.
Wisconsin Democratic State Senator Jon Erpenbach said Tuesday that since unions have already agreed to economic concessions the budget is essentially balanced. All that the governor has to do is drop his attack on collective bargaining and the senators will come back to take care of the budget.
