Hillary: Al Jazeera is 'Real News', U.S. Losing 'Information War'

March 02, 2011 5:36 PM

ABC News' Kirit Radia reports:

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made is worried the United States is losing what she calls the “information war” abroad.

China and Russia, she says, have started English-language networks that push news abroad and the US.

Rightrdia is an early adapter of this new international media. We have been featuring stories from Russia Today, Ria Novosti the China Daily, Haaretz and Al Jazeera for a long time for an alternative and often more accurate view of what is really going on.

Al Jazeera is king in the Arab World, and Clinton says she knows why:

Al Jazeera has been the leader in that are literally changing people’s minds and attitudes. And like it or hate it, it is really effective.

In fact viewership of Al Jazeera is going up in the United States because it’s real news.

You may not agree with it, but you feel like you’re getting real news around the clock instead of a million commercials and, you know, arguments between talking heads and the kind of stuff that we do on our news which, you know, is not particularly informative to us, let alone foreigners.

Clinton said that the US has dropped the ball since the Cold War. That was a time  when VOA and other US broadcasts were influential.

Rightrdia would argue the VOA should be unfunded because it performs no useful function.  In fact, the Democrats should threaten to cut VOA funding if the GOP won't shut up about NPR and PBS.

We would also agree the quality of journalism on Al Jazeera is outstanding. We think the journalism and videos from Russia Today and Ria Novosti are outstanding, too. We would like to see some videos on China Daily that are shareable which we could embed in Rightardia.

NMA of Taiwan is beating up on the PRC with their animations.

Netflix offers streaming Internet news from some of these international news agencies. It provides more than just movies.

The Hillary the conservatives want in the middle east

“We have not really kept up with the times,” Clinton argued.
