WIN: Election Was About Jobs & The Economy, Not A Mandate For Right-Wing Policies

AFL-CIO President Rich Trumka says the election was about the economy, but was not an endorsement of right-wing policies.

Trumka: "This election was about the economy and jobs, plain and simple. It was a mandate to fix the economy and to create jobs. Here's what it wasn't. It wasn't a mandate for the policies most Republicans campaigned on. The election wasn't an endorsement of tax cuts for the wealthy or for undermining social security or the minimum wage. It wasn't a rejection of building a middle class economy."

Sixty-four percent of union members voted for Democrats, according to AFL-CIO polls, while non-union working class whites without college degrees voted by a 16 point margin for Republicans.

The polls also showed that a large majority of these voters admitted they did not know what the Republican agenda is.

Open Secrets.org says corporations spent 74.2 per cent of all the money spent on this election, swamping other spenders.

Trumka vowed that the AFL-CIO would say in the fight to improve workers' lives and would do so both in and outside of elections.

Rightradia agrees with Trumka. The Superme Court gave the GOP a huge boost with the Citizens United ruling that allows corporations to provide unlimited contribtions to candidates. Conservatives knew they needed this, because the can't beat Democrats in a far fight. This became clear in the 2008 elections in which Democrats outraised Republicans for poltical donations.
