West Wing Week: "The Turkey Behind the Turkey
"Posted by Arun Chaudhary on November 26, 2010 at 1:00 AM EST

Welcome to the West Wing Week, your guide to everything that's happening at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Walk step by step with the President as he attends the NATO Summit in Portugal, visits Kokomo, Indiana, participates in the traditional turkey pardoning and volunteers alongside the First Family at Martha’s Table, a local organization that provides nutrition and other family services to those in need, and more…

The Kokomo region of Indiana had been one of the hardest hit regions in the country when it came to a loss of manufacturing jobs. In June of 2009 the region saw an unemployment rate of 19.6 percent. In September of 2010 that unemployment rate was down more than eight percent to an even 11 percent. President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden were in Kokomo on Tuesday touting the bounce back of the U.S. automotive industry as one of the major reasons for Kokomo ’s slow recovery from the unemployment brink.
