Movie reviews : RED

First of all, don't confuse RED with Reds, a move that Warren Beaty stared in.  RED stands for Retired, Extremely Dangerous and refers to a retired CIA agent, Frank Moss played by Bruce Willis.

The move perpetrates the myth of the CIA super men and women. It has an all star cast so the acting is superb.  The cast includes includes Academy Award® winners Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman, Richard Dreyfuss and Ernest Borgnine.

Is there is a star with such a distinguished ensemble cast. Each actor does an exceptional job of portraying an eccentric intelligence agent.

The other members of the cast are Bruce Willis (Sin City), Mary-Louis Parker (“Weeds”), Brian Cox (Rushmore) and Academy Award® nominee John Malkovich. The movie is a big-screen adaptation Red based on a novel by Warren Ellis.

Most of the story centers around the efforts of a younger CIA operative to take out a retired one. Thrown into that mix are two love stories, and some interesting older retired CIA agents who try uncover why the CIA would try to do in one of their own.

Morgan Freeman plays a retired CIA analyst, Maklovich a mind altered retired agent and Helen Mirren is a bag lady who fires most of the ordinance during the film. Mary-Louis Parker plays Moss's girl friend who travels with retired intelligence gang.

The story is highly entertaining and highly improbable. The Russian embassy even helps Moss break into the CIA to steal a file. Oh, yes, that could happen!

If you like action films this is one of the better ones. Rightardia rates it:

The film is was recently released on October 22, 2010.
