Screw bipartisanship. Washington is about power politics and effectiveness, not wimpy bipartisanship. We think Nancy Pelosi understood this better than Obama who was used to bipartisanship and compromise in the Senate.
The Democratic Congress will be back in session next week and it can do a lot of progressive good, unconstrained by the election results. It's time for Pelosi and the Democrats to put the hammer down. We need the Employee Free Choice Act passed immediately. The budget reconciliation should be used in the Senate to avoid a filibuster.
Obama can use executive orders and federal regulations to bypass the Republican Congress when it comes in session.
It not the end of the world for Democrats. it is a new beginning. We'll be back in 2012 once the public get a whiff of what the GOP wants in the House. Haley Barbour is right. Americans have no love for Republicans.
Because the GOP House is filled with far right extremists including Tea Baggers. its only hope for effectiveness is to move to the middle. That will more unlikely than ever now.
You have to hand it to the Democrats. They are not afraid to pass major legislation even if they will lose in the the next election. We saw this happen with Social Security, the Voting Rights Act and now the the Affordable Health Care Act of 2009.
That is the major difference between Democrats and Republicans. The Democrats have real political courage with the exception of the Blue Dogs.
Vive la différence.
