American Street: The Bushes and McCains go way back

Former President George W. Bush has said his upcoming memoir isn’t about settling scores. He may have made an exception for onetime GOP rival, John McCain.

In his memoir, “Decision Points,” set to hit shelves Tuesday, the former president takes dead aim at McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign, which he implies was run very badly.

Among other things, Bush questions why McCain  didn’t better capitalize politically on the ’08 financial crisis. As Politico’s James Hohmann reports, Bush writes that he was puzzled by McCain’s handling of the crisis, which included suspending his campaign and calling for a White House meeting on a proposed rescue package.

Rightardia is not sure how the GOP could have pulled off this slight of hand. McCain would have gone back to 2008 when Bill Clinton stupidly repealed the Glass -Steagal Act at the behest of a GOP House. Most economists and scholars blame the financial meltdown on the Bush Ownership Society and the Federal Reserve which loosened mortgage laws.

The SEC also also let the five big Wall Street investment banks off the hook for mortgage reserves in 2004. This was the straw theat broke the camel’s back.

Another McCain decision that irks Bush: his choice of Sarah Palin as his ’08 running mate. This doesn’t make it into the Bush book, but the New York Daily News’ Tom DeFrank writes that the former president, like his former strategist Karl Rove, has told friends that he doesn’t think Palin is qualified to be president and blames McCain for giving her a national platform.

“Naming Palin makes Bush think less of McCain as a man,” a Republican official familiar with Bush’s thinking told DeFrank.

Yes, indeedy. How can someone not qualified to be governor of a state like Alaska be president? Do we make people president because they are lippy?

McCain badly needed a Hail Mary play to stop the Obama Soul Train in its tracks. He was hoping to pick disenchanted Hillary PUMA supporters with a female running mate. It worked during the GOP convention.

However, once the mainstream media started interviewing Plain after a prolonged media blackout period, it was clear she was dumber than dirt and not ready for Prime Time. Additional information surfaced that Palin is vindictive and may have a narcissistic personality.

Rightardia considers 'Palin to be Bush is a skirt."  Both Palin and Bush have "Forrest Gump intellects that will appeal to white working class workers with marginal educations like "Joe the Plumber."
