Rightardia agrees with Scott Paul's analysis. It's the economy stupid and in particular, unemployment has to be substantially reduced. The latter will be the biggest issue in the 2010 election. The Democrats lost Virginia gubernatorial contest because the GOP candidate promised jobs and the Democrat candidate talked about social issues.
We also believe that the Tea party movement is Astro Turf. It won't be a factor in the 2010 election.
Scott Paul Exec. Dir., Alliance for American Manufacturing :
Democrats would be well advised to examine the 1994 elections closely and avoid repeating those “unforced errors.” Passing the unpopular NAFTA deal, shelving health care, and allowing cultural and ethics issues to dominate the headlines shrunk the liberal base and grew the conservative base, leading to startling Republican gains. The top issue in 2010 will without a doubt be the economy—so Democrats must take bold and decisive action to grow jobs. Democrats must deliver on health care, pass a bold jobs program, and keep their own ethical house in order.
Republicans may already be on their way to helping Democrats by offering up many candidates who are out of the social and economic mainstream in America. Misreading the Tea Party phenomenon for a broad, populist movement will doom their chances in 2010.
