A new report by Sweatfree Communities says "Made In USA" labels offer little insurance against poor working conditions and low wages. The report “Toxic Uniforms: Behind The Made in USA Label” reveals poor working conditions, poverty-level wages, health and safety problems and other serious issues for workers at nine government contractor plants.
The plants supply Propper International, largest supplier of uniforms for the U.S. Army and Eagle Industries, which supplies both the federal government and New York state. The report says workers at these plants in Massachusetts and Puerto Rico, making uniforms paid for with U.S. tax dollars, are suffering abusive conditions. Workers at the Puerto Rico plants are attempting to join the Workers United SEIU union.
