Ria Novosti: Bomb caused fatal train crash
16:4528/11/2009
MOSCOW, November 28 (RIA Novosti) An explosive device equivalent to more than 15 pounds of TNT caused Friday evening's deadly derailment of a train travelling from Moscow to St. Petersburg, the Russian federal security chief said on Saturday.
At least 26 people were killed when three carriages of the Nevsky Express came off the rails near the town of Bologoye in the Tver Region, some 160 kms from the Russian capital.
The death toll is expected to rise, with unconfirmed reports of as many as 39 deaths.
"Preliminary information indicates that improvised device equivalent to 7 kg of TNT exploded," Alexander Bortnikov said. Prosecutors have opened a criminal case on charges of terrorism.
The train, which can travel at 200 kilometers per hour (124 mph), was carrying some 650 passengers and 29 railroad employees.
"An unidentified explosive activated by unknown people went off," Vladimir Yakunin, president of railroad monopoly Russian Railways (RZD), said.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has instructed Emergency Situations Minister Sergei Shoigu to take all necessary measures to extend assistance to those affected.
A similar derailment, also caused by a blast, occurred on the same route in August 2007, injuring 60 people. The bomb was planted by Chechen terrorists.
According to Russia Today, Vasily Gatov from the World Association of Newspapers and News
Publishers believes the Caucasus terrorists are not the ones to blame
for the train crash on Friday.
“Terrorism
is always either a political proclamation or a threat. I think in this
particular case Russia does not have any real war at the moment, and I
would not think that the Caucasus lead that would probably be examined
first at this accident is the one to follow,” Gatov says. “I would think this is more political, and I expect some political proclamations to be made on this accident.”

probably muslims did this terror attack like they did the train terror attacks in spain few years ago .

This is very possible. Russia has been greatly concerned about Islamic fundamentalism in the Caucasus.
