Bush denied J.K. Rowling of Harry Potter fame a presidential medal

JK Rowling introduced millions of American children to reading. The wizardry in her books was mainly based on pre-Christian Celtic beliefs that have been a part of heritage of the British Isles and Ireland.

Sarah Palin also discussed removing the Rowling books and many other titles with the local librarian from the Wasilla Library when she was the mayor.

Matt Latimer, ex Bush speech writer, reveals the news in his new book Speech-less:

This was the same sort of narrow thinking that led people in the White House to actually object to giving the author J.K. Rowling a presidential medal because the Harry Potter books encouraged withcraft.

Of intrest, Laura Bush, who Lattimer described as a not so secret Democrat, loved the Potter books and had read the first five.
