Pentagon maintains a black book on journalists for “poor reporting”

Rightardia comment: The Major spent most of his Air Force career in intelligence, the world's second oldest profession. He also had a a brief stint in public affairs that he found disagreeable.

Essentially the command public affairs office is interfering with war correspondents that are producing 'bad press." This is a common occurrence in the armed forces because commanders and other seniors officers know their careers are dependent on 'good press.'
In this respect, the military functions a lot like a corporation that also tries to minimize 'bad press.'

The embedded system for journalists, originally designed to facilitate their requests, is now used by the Pentagon for obstructing war correspondents with a “negative” coverage record.

Kevin Baron, reporter from Stars and Stripes, explains how the system works.

On Friday, the Pentagon admitted keeping profiles on journalists reporting from Afghanistan to deny those reporters considered negative access to American fighting units. Stars and Stripes was the first to break the news.
