A Russian fan of the King of Pop has suggested laying Michael Jackson’s body down in the Mausoleum in Red Square, replacing Vladimir Lenin.
According to Russian News Agency “Novy Region”, music producer Aleksander Valov says it’s high time Lenin was laid to rest, because the Soviet Union collapsed long ago and it’s senseless to use the Mausoleum as a shrine on that basis.
Valov believes replacing Lenin with Jackson could be a good investment of money for Russian businessmen, as entrance to the Mausoleum won’t be free of charge.
Valov thinks that Michael Jackson would have appreciated such an idea. According to the producer, Jackson “himself wanted to have his body embalmed for centuries to come, preserving his moonwalk moves”.
The producer claims he’s in talks with sponsors who are ready to invest in the project, as well as with relatives of the late King of Pop.
The Mausoleum, where Lenin's embalmed body is kept in a special glass case, has long been a source of controversy in Russia. Put on public display after his death in 1924, its presence in the heart of Moscow is a constant cause of dispute between those who say it’s part of the Soviet legacy, and others – namely communists – according to whom the state-run mausoleum is an important symbol of Russia’s past.
