The Palm Centre, an official research unit of University of California at Santa Barbara, said: 

The data indicate that from 2003 through 2006, the military allowed 4,230 convicted felons to enlist under the 'moral waivers' programme... In addition, 43,977 individuals convicted of serious misdemeanors such as assault were permitted to enlist under the moral waivers programme during that period, as were 58,561 illegal drug abusers. In the Army, allowable offenses include making terrorist threats, murder, and kidnapping.

Man With Neo-Nazi Ties Leading Patrols In Arizona

PHOENIX — Minutemen groups, a surge in Border Patrol agents, and a tough new immigration law aren't enough for a reputed neo-Nazi who's now leading a militia in the Arizona desert.

Jason "J.T." Ready is taking matters into his own hands, declaring war on "narco-terrorists" and keeping an eye out for illegal immigrants. So far, he says his patrols have only found a few border crossers who were given water and handed over to the Border Patrol. Once, they also found a decaying body in a wash, and alerted authorities.

But local law enforcement are nervous given that Ready's group is heavily armed and identifies with the National Socialist Movement.  This organization believes only non-Jewish, white heterosexuals should be American citizens and that everyone who isn't white should leave the country "peacefully or by force."

We're not going to sit around and wait for the government anymore," Ready said. "This is what our founding fathers did.

An escalation of civilian border watches have taken root in Arizona in recent years, including the Minutemen movement. Various groups patrol the desert on foot, horseback and in airplanes and report suspicious activity to the Border Patrol. Generally these groups have not caused problems for law enforcement.

But Ready, a 37-year-old ex-Marine, is different. He and his friends are outfitted with military fatigues, body armor and gas masks, and carry assault rifles. Ready takes offense at the term "neo-Nazi," but admits he identifies with the National Socialist Movement.

"These are explicit Nazis," said Mark Potok of the Southern Poverty Law Center's Intelligence Project. "These are people who wear swastikas on their sleeves."

Limbaugh dishonors the people who died in the Oklahoma city bombings

Rush Limbaugh blames the Oklahoma City bombing on the Branch Davidian conflict in Waco. This is typical simplistic Limbaugh bombast.

Alhtough timothy McVay blew up the federal building on the anniversary of the Branch Davidian fire, he believed the attack would spur a right wing counter-revolution in the US as described in the neo-fascist Truner Diaries. McVay became disenchanted with the US Army when he was passed over for Special Operation training. 

David Koresh was a pedophile and was only person in the sect allowed to have sex. In March 1986, Koresh first slept with Karen Doyle, aged 14. He claimed her as his second wife. In August 1986, Koresh began secretly sleeping with Michele Jones, his wife's younger 12-year-old sister.

In September 1986 Koresh began to preach that he was entitled to 140 wives, 60 women as his "queens" and 80 as concubines, which he based upon his interpretation of the Biblical Song of Solomon.
< Koresh then built up an entirely new theology around his "marriage" to Doyle. This theology was called the "New Light", with a doctrine of polygamy for himself, which he called "The House of David".

According to this doctrine, Doyle was supposed to have a daughter named Shoshanna who would then be married to Koresh's firstborn son Cyrus.

However, Doyle failed to conceive, so Koresh then transferred his attention to his wife's sister.

Former Davidian David Bunds said that Koresh's doctrine of polygamy "rose out of his deep desire to have sex with young girls. Once he was able to convince himself that it was God's will then he was able to be free of guilt and have sex with as many young girls as he could get his hands on."
The fire that burned down the Branch Davidian compound may have been set by Koresh's followers. Many right wingers believe the government started the fire.

Politics Daily: Another Bone-Headed Baptist Moment

I wanted to ignore it, and held out for more than a month. I didn't talk about it. I didn't think about it. I went to Texas, attended church with my relatives twice, talked with my Pentecostal cousin about nationalized health care, talked to my aunts about God's will, heard lots of Bible quoting, even did some myself, and never once considered bringing it up.

Whew! Over the hump, I thought. Never again to be riled by Southern Baptist idiocy, I'm free at last.

A little while later Richard Land, head of the Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, apologized for having compared national health care to "what the Nazis did."

I congratulated myself. I'd refused to be baited. I'd spared myself upset and had been wise to do so. Everyone makes mistakes. I've known Land a long time. Been bawled out by him a time or two. Had some good discussions. Land's a smart guy. He got carried away and he's really sorry, I told myself.

I was happy that Richard Land had been big enough to say he was sorry. Proud of myself for resisting my usual pique.

And then he did it again. He snuck off and started saying that . . . stuff.

What I think or don't think doesn't mean diddly squat to Richard Land or any other Southern Baptist of his ilk. And what he thinks ought not to mean any more to me.

But Lord help me, how can such a smart man be so absurd? This is a guy who went to Princeton . He's no rube.

So, okay, educated fools are nothing new, and people who will say anything to keep power are nothing new either. But he's saying things he knows to be complete fabrications. He's doing it in the name of Jesus. And he's trying to lead people who really do want to be like Jesus in a devilish direction.

Nothing new there either. I just wish I didn't get so riled up about it.

The Baptist Center for Ethics Web site, EthicsDaily.com, which helped disseminate Land's comments, only gave him more publicity. And in my piddly way, I'm doing the same. But something good has come out of it. A coalition of Christians, Muslims and Jews has come up with a good idea. Maybe it will cool my jets.

Noting several recent examples of political partisans trying to tar their opponents by casting them as Nazi-like, these religious leaders have called for a moratorium on all Nazi comparisons. Nobody can enforce such a ban, and I hope no one would want to.

But the rest of us ought to just dismiss all such comparisons as demagoguery – no matter who uses them. No matter what they're saying, we ought to shrug and turn away. Whether they're liberals or conservatives, such rabble-rousing is vicious. It demeans the memory of those who died in the Holocaust. It trivializes real horrors in the pursuit of political gain.

Not only are Land's comments right wing rhetoric, they are factually incorrect. Germany was one of the first countries to have a national health care ystem. Otto Von Bismarck established the German health care system in the 1880's. By the way, Bismarck was a conservative.

Republican tries to put a spin on neo-fascist C Streeters

[VIDEO CLIP] Zach Wamp of Tennessee is a Republican member of Congress who says he has lived in the C Street house for 12 years. Today he told the Knoxville News Sentinel that the members of Congress who live there are sworn to secrecy. Quoting from the News Sentinel, "The C Street residents have all agreed they won't talk about their private living arrangements, Wamp said, and he intends to honor that pact.


That was on this show on Friday. Today Congressman Wamp's office contacted our office to complain about what I said saying, quote, "This statement made by Ms. Maddow Friday night is false: 'Today he told the Knoxville News Sentinel that the members of Congress who live there are sworn to secrecy.' Congressman Wamp now now denies that the C streeters are sworn to secrecy.

The on-the-record quotation from Mr. Wamp was that C Street residents have all agreed they won't talk about their private living arrangements. The News Sentinel characterized the agreement as a "pact."
