Politico: The Prince of Orange isn't very socialable

By AMIE PARNES & KARIN TANABE | 1/14/11 5:19 PM EST Updated: 1/14/11 6:00 PM EST

This week, House Speaker John Boehner turned down an offer to ride on Air Force One with President Obama and others going to the Tucson memorial service.

Boehner is said “no thanks” to another offer to appear at an event with the president at eh upcoming White House state dinner.

The dinner, honoring the Chinese President, Hu Jintao, on both sides of the aisle, along with celebrities, CEOs, Cabinet members, Supreme Court justices and media leaders.

This is not a good sign for bi-partisanship.  Rightardia has heard some Republicans think the Democrats disrespected Bush when he was president and they are now getting payback.

We can't think of any examples of any Democrat having a "you lie" outburst like Rep. Joe Wilson did. Or Jim DeMint's comment that Obama would be finished if his health care program was defeated.

If some conservatives have information we are not aware of concerning Democratic disrespect, please advise.

Sen. Jim DeMint Like A Jew "Watching Our Nation's Pennies"

Rightardia hasn't figured out what state is more regressive: Tennessee or South Carolina. Tennessee seems to wins hands down for racism, but South Carolina has upped the ante with its anti-Semitism. Regardless, the right wing is just naturally politically incorrect.

Two South Carolina County Republican Party chairmen stepped up to rebut criticism of Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) in a newspaper editorial Sunday. But their defense of the senator might be overshadowed by their use of an anti-Semitic stereotype to praise DeMint.

After a Democratic state senator wrote in The State that DeMint didn't bring enough money back home, Bamberg County GOP Chairman Edwin Merwin and Orangeburg County GOP Chairman James Ulmer responded that he was just looking after the nation's pennies like a Jew would.

"There is a saying that the Jews who are wealthy got that way not by watching dollars, but instead by taking care of the pennies and the dollars taking care of themselves," Ulmer and Merwin wrote in a joint letter published by The Times and Democrat. "By not using earmarks to fund projects for South Carolina and instead using actual bills, DeMint is watching our nation's pennies and trying to preserve our country's wealth and our economy's viability to give all an opportunity to succeed."

"It's people like Ulmer and Merwin that make many folks fear for the future of the once Grand Ole Party," wrote the conservative Palmetto Scoop.

How did Gomer Pyle become a US Senator?

Jim DeMint, R- S.C., suggests that the GOP has all of these good ideas that Democrats have been killing. Wait a minute, the GOP had control of the House, the Senate and the presidency for six of the last eight years. Why didn't it fix health care when the GOP had the chance?

The simple answer is the GOP made US health care another corporate bitch that produced big profits for the insurance industry. Republicans liked the status quo.

DeMint  is the senator who said, "If we're able to stop Obama on this, it will be his Waterloo. It will break him."

President Obama called liberal bloggers today about health care

All 24 minutes of his Blogger call have been embedded in the post. President Obama and David Axlerod hosted a conference call with liberal bloggers today on the whole health care issue. The audio contains the entire call with the President. We're heading for the home stretch in this debate and it is a good idea that the President reached out to the bloggers and acknowledged the work that we've done so far.

Here's a quick recap of the points he made.

President Obama wanted to tell us directly what's going on..
He wants the bill to be strong with an excellent public option.
The status quo is unacceptable for Americans as premiums are skyrocketing....
Doing nothing is defending the indefensible

Opponents are offering up nothing and admit that they are just trying to stop it. He mentioned Jim DeMint and Bill Kristol as examples of obstructionism.

Liberal Bloggers have done an excellent job of debunking right wing myths...

Bloggers have played and will play a critical role in passing legislation...

Record deficits is a myth. He inherited this deficit and it's not an excuse for inaction...

It's important to keep pressure on members of Congress...

Sam Stein of Huff Po: Obama Calls On Bloggers To Keep Health Care Pressure On Congress "I know the blogs are best at are debunking myths that can slip through a lot of the traditional media outlets," he said. "And that is why you are going to play such an important role in our success in the weeks to come."

'If we're able to stop Obama on this it will be his Waterloo'

Editor's Note:  It appears the GOP is taking health care personal rather than considering what is best for America. I had to laugh when I noticed the CPR acronym. That is what the Republican party has been running on after the 2008 election. The DeMint quote is being discussed on the MSNBC Ed Show as I write this.

July 20, 2009

ABC's Jake Tapper posted on his blog Political Punch this weekend about a comment that's getting some attention. As reported by Politico, South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint said on a conference call - arranged by a group called Conservatives for Patients Rights (CPR) - "If we’re able to stop Obama on this it will be his Waterloo. It will break him."

Tapper wrote: "You should expect to hear that quote this week from the White House as they use it to rally their troops, a White House official tells ABC News. Officials will say the people being "broken" are the American people going bankrupt paying for health insurance premiums that increase 10 percent every year, the source says, and that those who want to use this issue to break the president are doing nothing but working for insurance companies and insurance executives."
