Last year, a bi-partisan majority in Congress approved a new food safety law. It was the first significant change to the nation’s food safety system since 1938.
The bill was non-controversial. It was approved unanimously in the Senate.

House Republicans are threatening to defund the new law by cutting its appropriations.
