President Barack Obama has had a mixed relationship with organized labor throughout his first two years, but one area where he can certainly show he made the right decisions for U.S. workers is in the automotive industry.
Few areas tell that story better than Kokomo, Indiana. The Kokomo region of Indiana had been one of the hardest hit regions in the country when it came to a loss of manufacturing jobs.
In June of 2009 the region saw an unemployment rate of 19.6 percent. In October of 2010 that unemployment rate was down more than eight percent to 10.7 percent.
Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden were in Kokomo in November touting the bounce back of the U.S. automotive industry as one of the major reasons for Kokomo’s slow, but steady recovery from the unemployment brink.
Many Republican voices wanted to throw the automotive industry under the bus. Republicans don't seem to think the US needs to produce anything any more.
The GOP doesn't believe you should make money the old fashioned way by earning it. It's easier to push mortgage and securities paper.
