A good right deserves a good left. If the GOP wants to filibuster every act in the Senate then the Senate should counter with a recocilation bill and stop kidding themsleves about bipartisanship.
Cloture was invoked 214 times since 2007: a record 139 times in
2007-2008 and 75 times in this two-year term. That's an increase of 60%
over the previous two congressional sessions, from 2003 to 2006, when
cloture was invoked 130 times.
In Bayh's first two years in the
Senate, from 1999 to 2000, the number of cloture motions was 71. We
have exceeded that this term at 75 with 10 months remaining.
If reconciliation has to be used every time to pass a bill in the Senate, then make it so number 1: that would be Senate majority leader Harry Reid.
