WIN: Big Dissatisfaction With Allstate Among Its Agents. 02/10/12

Over 1800 Allstate insurance agents took a survey done by the OPEIU affiliated National Association of Professional Allstate Agents, Inc. to measure the agents’ satisfaction with the giant insurer. Allstate fared very poorly in the NAPAA survey, which used a model similar to Allstate’s own customer satisfaction surveys. The company scored less than zero with a higher percentage of agents ranking the company with negative answers in all categories than those who ranked it positive in every category.

Allstate fared very poorly in the NAPAA survey, which used a model similar to Allstate’s own customer satisfaction surveys.

The company scored less than zero with a higher percentage of agents ranking the company with negative answers in all categories than those who ranked it positive in every category.

The AllState Insurance company was founded by Sears in 1931. In 1995 AllState became independent of Sears when Sears divested it share of the company to Sears' stockholders.

Allstate also dabbled with Scientology management principals between 1988-1992. 

The course materials preached a rigorous, even ruthless devotion to raising productivity  were developed by Mr. L. Ron Hubbard, the Scientology founder. 

One of the purposes of  a Scientology management program, is to instill "the ethics, principles, codes and doctrines of the Scientology religion throughout the business world."

Some employees today continue to use Scientology techniques. Some agents believe they have been harassed and, despite repeated denials, the insurance giant has been unable to put all the speculation to rest.

In 1995 agents in Florida have launched a drive to unionize the work force. The agents used the Scientology issue as a centerpiece of their attack on management.

Allstate employees who took the classes say one theme of the training was an uncompromising commitment to the bottom line.  Poor performers were often treated harshly.

The course materials warned managers never to be sympathetic to someone whose productivity numbers, or "stats," were down.
