Newt's switcheroo on Libya

You Tube is useful in pointing out the hypocrisy of politicians. Videos don't lie and can't be taken out-of -context without heavy editing.

Newt over the years has been sort of arch hypocrite. Watch for more of these.

2012 federal budget: Discretionary spending

This chart appears to show how federal revenues from income tax are spent. The DoD, Homeland Security and Veteran Affairs budgets are combined to give a more accurate cost of US "defense."

Starting in the Vietnam war, the government combined both FICA payroll tax revenues with federal income tax revenues which made defense obligations look smaller  and entitlement programs (Social Security/Medicare) look bigger.

Of course, income tax revenues are discretionary while entitlement revenues are usually not.

There is one exception, The government has been using FICA over payments to fund discretionary programs like defense.

These FICA over payments  are issued as IOUs that have to be paid back to the federal trust funds for Social Security and Medicare.

Bachmann would close the "US embassy" in Iran

Michele Bachmann told supporters in Iowa on Wednesday she has big plans for US diplomacy.

She said during a Bachmann presidency there would be no U.S. embassy in Iran.

Duh! The US hasn't had an embassy in Iran since 1980.

Bachmann also has a new axis of evil: Iran, Syria, North Korea, China and Russia.

Why Iran won't give up its nuclear weapons

A British diplomat recently ended his tour of Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea (DPRK).

North Korean officials told him that NATO would not have attacked Libya if Muammar Qaddafi had not given up his nuclear weapons.

Tehran appears to agree with the British's diplomat's assessment.

Newsy: GOP upset about Automatic Defense Cuts

November 28, 2011 (2:19)

The deficit reduction super committee’s failure to reach consensus is set to trigger $1.2 trillion in cuts to the federal budget. Half will be cut out of defense and the other half domestic programs.
The Republicans are talking about saving defense which got a 40 per cent increase in spending after 911 and that did not include appropriations for Iraq or Afghanistan.

The US is withdrawing from Iraq and Afghanistan will wind down in the next 5 years.

Another issue is the threat. We are trading partners with China and Russia, who  would love to sell its goods in the US. Neither country is interested in war with the US.

China spends one sixth of what the US spends on defense. Russia spends about one twelfth. Al Qaeda has been eliminated as threat, perhaps 200 of their faithful are left.

Does the US need to spend big bucks buying and fielding aircraft, tanks and ships. No, conventional war is less likely than ever. Low Intensity Conflict (LIC) and special operations seems to be the name of game.

Does the US need to be able to fight two wars at once. No, it would be better to fight one good war that we win than two that we lose. When was the last time the US actually won a war?

Oh, the DoD and the generals will whine about the cuts, but the Armed Services will always have the budget it needs in a real emergency.

Former Senator Mike Gavel said this about the United States:

The US is like a drunkard who charges to war with anyone who might pose a threat.

Phony triumphalism has turned into a device to make Americans live in fear of a terrorist attack, yet you are a thousand times more likely to catch cancer than ever be hurt by that.

For sure. Terrorism is a fact of life and the belief the US needs to spend billions to deter every possible terrorist attack is a canard. We spend about 4.7 per cent of our gross domestic product on defense and two per cent on infrastructure. China spends 9 per cent of its GDP on infrastructure.

One day history may remember the US as a bunch of war monkeys and the Chinese as builders. Hopefully we will change our ways.

A one per center speaks

Uploaded by InnerCityProjections on Nov 18, 2011

According to the Village Voice, the clip was taken during the National Day of Action, on Nov. 17 during the Occupy Los Angeles movement.

Republicans like GW Bush will tell you that the man in the foreground is one of the most productive members of society.

Rightarida doesn't think so. The smartest people we have met have worked in government as scientists, astronauts and engineers

Other brilliant people have entered the entertainment and media industry. Brilliant athletes have professional sport careers.

Most high school teachers will tell you that it is the C students that end up in business and corporations.

Many 1 percenters will also admit they are lucky to be where they are.

Political Wire: Is Romney fading?

Tom Jensen on Tegan Goddard's Political Wire explained why Mitt Romney hasn't surged.

It's because as more GOP primary voters across the country have been exposed to him, the less they've liked him.

The Public Policy Poll (PPP) has polled the Republican race at 13 places in October or November and again between January and March.

In those places Romney's net favorability has dropped by an average of 15 points.

Why does Romney lack political appeal?
  1. He is a 1 percenter establishment Republican, not the kind of politico Tea Partiers support.
  2. He is Mormon which makes evangelicals suspicious of him.
  3. He is a stuffed shirt and pompous.
  4. He is a Wall Street venture capitalist, the type of person who got the country into the financial mess and the TARP 1 bailout.
  5. He has shifted his political positions over the years, which makes him suspect with GOP ideologues.

Buzz 60: Gingrich to win Iowa caucus and then fade away

Buzz 60 predicts Newt will win the Iowa caucus and then fade away. Rightardia agrees.

First of all a caucus is not particularly democratic. Eash candidate gets their supporters in designated rooms at a specific time and date and a count ensues. The person who get the most supporters out wins.

Rightardia also saw a Science Daily study that indicated the early primaries have about five times the impact they should. Brian Knight and Nathan Schiff found:

Voters in states with early primary races such as Iowa and New Hampshire have up to five times the influence of voters in later states in selcting presidential candidates, according to research by Brown University economist Brian Knight.

Knight and Schiff added:

"Evidence that early voters have a disproportionate influence over the selection of candidates violates 'one person-one vote' -- a democratic ideal on which our nation is based.

What is the point of this? Only a rightard would understand!

We suspect the big guns may compensate for male shortfalls in other areas.

Fox News tries to hype Cain's 9-9-9 plan

By now most Americans know that GOP "tax reform" is designed to help the most affluent Americans. Herman Cain's tax plan was not well-received.

Rick Perry's tax plan which was a rehash of Mike Huckabee's fair tax got somewhat better press.

Both GOP plans result in regressive flat taxes. The GOP objective appears to eliminate a progressive income  tax system that taxes the affluent at higher rates than the less affluent and to replace income tax with a flat tax.

The Republicans have been selling tax reform since the Reagan administration.

Flat taxes, which are regressive, would place a higher tax burden on working and middle class Americans.
It's as simple as that.

Be aware, too, that most US taxes are flat: sales tax and property tax are good examples.

WMR: Generals warn Obama on Iran attack by Israel, 11/25-27/2011

Obama's 'see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil' approach gives the green light to Israel for an attack

Sources close to the White House have told WMR that the Obama administration has decided to embark on a neo-Cold War policy aimed at toppling the government of Iran while remaining ambivalent on an Israeli first strike on Iranian nuclear and military facilities.

President Obama's reluctance to tell Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has resulted in a "generals' revolt" among senior Pentagon officers, according to our sources.

Army General Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Marine Corps General James N. Mattis, the chief of the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), have told Obama personally that he should tell Netanyahu that there absolutely cannot be an Israeli attack on Iran or it will put the lives of U.S. military personnel in the Gulf region and Afghanistan in great jeopardy.

The generals argue that they need between 45 to 90 days to ramp up U.S. force protection measures in the Gulf region.

WMR has also been told by knowledgeable sources that U.S. diplomats have told Iran via back channels that if Israel attacks Iran, it will not be with the approval or backing of the United States.

Obama's response to Dempsey and Mattis was not what they expected to hear. Obama said, "I have no say over Israel, it is a sovereign nation."

As far as an Israeli surprise attack on Iran, Obama said he would not attempt to convince Israel beforehand to stop such a move, simply saying, "I'd like to be surprised."

Dempsey, Mattis, and other senior military commanders believe that Obama is derelict in his duty to protect U.S. military forces and is placing domestic presidential politics, vis a vis Jewish political support, ahead of the security of U.S. military personnel.

Obama has reportedly settled on a middle ground on two proposed policies on Iran: all-out support for an Israeli attack and a negotiated agreement with Iran.

While withholding support for an Israeli attack on Iran, Obama has authorized stepped-up destabilization efforts against Iran's government.

Meanwhile, Obama has become increasingly isolated from the policy-making suties of the presidency, with more control over the White House being exercised by three women called the "3 Bs" by ex-White House chief of staff and current Mayor of Chicago Rahm Emanuel.

The "3 Bs" refer to First Lady Michelle Obama, her mother Mary Robinson, and presidential counselor Valerie Jarrett -- the "three bitches."

WMR has also learned that President Obama's policy toward Israel and Iran, Syria, and Russia is heavily influenced by four foreign unofficial "advisers" to the president: British Prime Minister David Cameron and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair (on the Middle East), Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan (on Syria and the "Arab Spring"), and former Soviet Union President Mikhail Gorbachev . . .

Israel would have to attack Iran before the next election. Intrade shows a 16 per cent chance of an attack before September 30, 2012.

Newt and Herman: The Producers

The theme of the producers was to find a script that was sure to fail, raise far more money than was needed from gullible old ladies and then walk away with their money when the production flops on opening night,

The scalawags produce a musical called Springtime for Hitler written by escaped Nazi Franz Liebken.

However, the play is so awful that it becomes a comedy sensation. The producers end up in jail which is exactly where grifters Newt and Herman belong.

The Producers (2005) was actually a remake or the original. The new version stared Nathan Lane, Mathew Broderick and Uma Thurman. Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder were in the 1968 original.

Andrew Sullivan Wonders Just How Many More Groups Republicans Can Alienate?

Andrew Sullivan on the Chris Matthews the cable news MSNBC show:

SULLIVAN: But I think it's a huge problem for the Republicans too.

MATTHEWS: How so?

SULLIVAN: Look, you've been watching these debates. Everybody, a lot more have been watching them. If you're a Latino, if you're black, if you're a woman and watched the way they sort of coo-cooed sexual harassment allegations. If you're gay and they booed a gay soldier. I mean how many minorities are they going to tell not to vote Republican until they realize this is going to be a problem for them?

And the more the Limbaugh brand adheres to the Republican Party, the more doomed they are.

Big Huge software offers Herman Cain a contract

Big Huge software is creating new game called Poontang Clan.

In this game first person "shooters' can take the identity of Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, John Edwards, Bill Clinton and Anthony Wiener as poontang hunters.

You win points by capturing poontang and satisfying it. You really require good hand and eye coordination to score big points in the game.

One person who played the game said he wore out his "joy stick" in less that a month playing "Poontang Clan."

There is even a gay mode for gay shooters like Larry Craig who lurks airport bathrooms and Mark Foley who stalks congressional pages.

Big Huge said it expect to make millions with Herman Cain in the game.

It considers Cain to be one of the greatest poon hunters ever in US politics.

"Cain may be bigger than even Bill Clinton. " said Erasmus Close, the CEO of Big Huge.

New proposed Florida Congressional Districts

Florida Amendment 6 requires that boundaries not be drawn to favor a political party or incumbent. Districts should be compact rather than sprawling; and that districts cannot be designed to shut racial or language minorities out of the political process.

The aim of this and a companion amendment is to curb gerrymandering of districts, In the past lawmakers design boundaries favorable to their own election prospects or contort them to help one political party.

Amendment 6 passed with more than 60 percent of the vote last year.

Rep. Bill Young's proposed new district is in pink. South St. Petersburg that has a large black poulation is still conveniently lopped off the old District 10 .

Although the biggest growth in Florida has been in Hispanic areas, The GOP is trying to create another new district out of four rural counties. That will certianly be challenged in court.

Florida Democratic Party Chairman Rod Smith and Senate Democratic Leader Nan Rich criticized the proposed redistricting maps today:

Today, Florida Republicans have taken a state - which experts have long considered one of the most malapportioned states in the country - and worsened it,'' Smith said in a statement. "In doing so, they have chosen to thwart the will of 63-percent of Florida voters by proposing maps that are aimed at incumbent protection and partisan advantage - the very things which Florida’s Constitution now prohibits.

From virtually eliminating the seat currently held by the Democratic Senate leader, to avoiding placing a single Republican incumbent at risk, it is clear the Florida GOP are working overtime to protect their interest ahead of the interest of the people they serve.

Hope "The two men in one body" ad are signs of things to come

Mitt describes has tax cut plan for the 1 per cent

The GOP candidates have said so many outrageous things in the past two years, the Democrats should have plenty of material for humorous attack ads.

A couple of Fox News Democrats suggested that Obama will have to go negative to win and that will make him an ineffective president with Republicans.

Rightardia doesn't understand that logic. Republicans have never been afraid of going negative, so why should Democrats?

The Republicans have given Democrats a lot of material for funny attack ads. Democrats should go funny in the next election. It's not  not necessary to go negative.

Tea Party says Obama is repsonsble for Occupy movement

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani says responsibility for the Occupy Wall Street movement rests squarely on the shoulders of President Obama.Giuliani said:

Barack Obama owns the Occupy Wall Street movement, it would not have happened but for his class warfare.

Rudy explained the Occupy Wall Street protests broke out in cities all over the country shortly after president Obama called for tax hikes on the wealthiest Americans.

The Republicans are confusing cause and effect. Less than one in four Occupiers is a Democrat. Most of them are independent.

This is what Wikipedia says about the Occupy movement:

The Occupy movement is an international protest movement which is primarily directed against economic and social inequality. The first Occupy protests to be widely covered were in Occupy Wall Street New York City and Occupy San Francisco, both taking place on September 17, 2011. By October 9, Occupy protests had taken place or were ongoing in over 95 cities across 82 countries, and over 600 communities in the United States. As of November 26 the Meetup page "Occupy Together" listed 2,668 Occupy communities worldwide.

The movement was initiated by the Canadian activist group Adbusters, and partly inspired by the Arab Spring, especially Cairo's Tahrir Square protests, and the Spanish Indignants. The movement commonly uses the slogan We are the 99%, the #Occupy hashtag format, and organizes through websites such as "Occupy Together".

Huffington Post: Neo-conservatism is back

The Huffintgon Post Andrea Stone has written a great article on this subject. As the Post article states:

. . .(R)omney's roster of foreign policy advisers is heavy on Bush administration retreads, including neocons like Robert Kagan, Dan Senor and Eliot Cohen. Newt Gingrich has an eclectic list that includes several old war hawks as well as David Wurmser, a former aide to John Bolton -- once dubbed "the angriest neocon . . .
Douglas Feith, former head of the Pentagon's controversial Office of Special Plans, is an informal adviser to Perry. Cain has also mentioned Bolton, a former U.N. ambassador, as cabinet material.
Andrew Bacevich, a Boston University international relations professor whose son died in 2007 while fighting in Iraq. said this
Neoconservatives have brought discredit upon their views by proposing and vigorously supporting policy initiatives that have cost the country dearly and produced next to nothing in terms of positive results.

It's pretty clear the US will be pushed to war with Iran if Mitt Romney is elected. Mormons believe they are descended from one of the lost tribes of Israel which may be a driver for Romney to invade Iran.

Iran threatens the staus quo in the Middle east with Israel being the only nuclear power with the exception of Pakistan. Is Iran a threat to the US?

Hardly.

The US has already spent $ one trillion on our two middle east wars. With VA claims, the life cycle cost of Iraq and Afghanistan are expected to be $ 4 trillion.

Of course, the GOP will try and tell you that entitlement programs like Social Security and Medicare are big factors in the National Debt which is untrue. Actually the government takes the FICA payroll tax over-payments and uses these funds to pay for programs like defense.
