Republicans wants to revive Bibical stoning

As Vice President of the Chalcedon Institute Martin Selbrede stated in the Institute's March/April 2010 issue of Faith For All Of Life, the only reason Bill Gothard didn't agree to use Chalcedon founder R.J. Rushdoony's monumental Institutes of Biblical Law tome in Gothard's sprawling evangelical empire is that the two couldn't agree on divorce.

Rushdoony's Institutes has provided a template for instituting Biblical law in government  . . .

As Selbrede wrote,

[T]he divide between Gothard and Rushdoony on divorce was a deep and abiding one. Gothard proposed using Rushdoony's Institutes of Biblical Law as a resource for his massive ministry; the sheer volume of the resulting sales would have made Rushdoony both rich and famous. Gothard's condition for moving forward on this was letter-simple: Rushdoony merely needed to remove the section on divorce from his book, and the highly profitable deal would be sealed.

Rushdoony refused the offer."

So, while Gothard was categorically opposed to divorce, Rushdoony, a virulently racist Holocaust denier who espoused Geocentrism, was a little more liberal on divorce. In other words, the two men were otherwise in substantial agreement - except for the sticking point of divorce, they both agreed that Rushdoony's vision for Biblical law should be imposed upon America.

That vision included instituting stoning as a form of capital punishment for rape, kidnapping, murder, heresy, blasphemy, witchcraft, astrology, adultery, "sodomy or homosexuality," incest, striking a parent, extreme juvenile delinquency, and "unchastity before marriage.

Daniel Webster's association with Bill Gothard's Institute For Basic Life Training has continued into the present, and a speech Webster made at a Nashville IBLP conference in 2009 has now become a source of controversy due to a new Alan Grayson campaign ad. Grayson is currently taking a media drubbing because of an ad campaign ad that calls Grayson's political opponent, Republican Daniel Webster, "Taliban Dan."

An assessment from Factcheck.org, a project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center, has charged that a new Grayson campaign ad attacking Grayson's political opponent, Republican Daniel Webster, takes out of context statements Webster made in a speech at a 2009 conference of a religious organization called the "Institute of Basic Life Principles."

But die-hard religious right researchers at ReligionDispatches.org are raising questions about Factcheck.org's charge, and Religion Dispatches editor Sarah Posner calls out Factcheck.org in turn for its benign depiction of Bill Gothard's IBLP, noting that "Factcheck.org fails. to describe what the IBLP is really about, describing it as a "non-denominational Christia organization that runs programs and training sessions."

Politifact rated Grayson's comments half true but did not provide much of a rationale for their determination.

Many across the political spectrum appear appalled by the Grayson campaign's "Taliban" label but Daniel Webster's nearly three-decade long, intimate involvement with the Bill Gothard and the Institute For Basic Life Principles suggests that the label may be less than hyperbolic.

Wesbter's association with Bill Gothard and the IBLP is noteworthy for other
reasons :

As described in a February 18, 1999 story in the Broward/Palm Beach New Times, by Bob Norman, Bill Gothard's Character First! curriculum, now being
taught in public school systems across the United States, teaches an extreme form of submission to authority. As Norman's story begins,

One of the lessons for today is obedience, and the first graders at the school inside the First Christian Church building in Fort Lauderdale sing about it quite obediently.

While the students at the Charter School of Excellence are divided fairly evenly between blacks and whites, they dress alike, with the boys in dark blue pants and green buttoned-up golf shirts and the girls wearing white blouses under plaid jumpers. All eyes are focused on their young and attractive teacher, Mrs. Blocker, who leads them in song:

Obedience is listening attentively,
Obedience will take instructions joyfully,
Obedience heeds wishes of authorities,
Obedience will follow orders instantly.
For when I am busy at my work or play,
And someone calls my name, I'll answer right away!
I'll be ready with a smile to go the extra mile
As soon as I can say "Yes, sir!" "Yes ma'am!"
Hup, two, three!

Is anyone surprise that the GOP would prefer to provide vouchers so parents can send there kids to private schools dominated by right wing churches? I guess they prefer to save money indoctrinating kids in private schools rather than 'fixing public education.'

Rightardia consider this sort of obedience to be reminiscent of German fascism in World War 2.

Politico: Palin a 'half-baked Alaskan'

Alex Isenstadt - POLITICO.com 9/30/10 12:22 PM EDT
By ALEX ISENSTADT | 9/30/10 12:22 PM EDT
Florida Rep. Alan Grayson is hoping to raise money by warning supporters about an enemy even more menacing than “Taliban Dan Webster." That would be Sarah Palin’s zombie horde.

In a rambling, pop-culture-laden new fundraising appeal out Thursday morning, Grayson slams Palin, whom he derides as a “half-baked Alaskan” and “Her Tweetness" PLIN predictably endorsement grayson's GOP foe, Daniel Webster, on Palin’s Twitter account.

What is it about Sarah Palin and Twitter?” Grayson writes. “Is Palin fond of tweeting because she can draft a tweet on her palm? Is it that 140 characters represents the maximum length of Sarah Palin's attention span?

Grayson also claims that Palin is targeting him “like she was shooting a moose from a helicopter . . . "

Florida PTA says vote 'no' on Amendment 8

Florida Republicans have never been happy with the class size amendment that was passed in 2002 and have tried to repeal this amendment. Nearly 40 per cent of Florida classrooms are overcrowded.

Amendment 8 will weaken funding to Florida public schools. We agree with the Florida PTA, vote 'no."

Meg Whitman denies she knew she had hired an illegal alien

Gloria Allred, a Los Angeles attorney who represents Meg Whitman's former maid, Nicky Diaz Santillan, said she would release evidence Thursday showing Whitman was aware of the maid's illegal status as far back as 2003.

Allred said:

Throughout her employment "Nicky was undocumented and ... Whitman was aware of her status.

Whitman denies that she received a 2003 letter from the Social Security Administration that said the Social Security number provided by the housekeeper did not match the name on file.

The former eBay chief executive said,  "We never received that letter or that notification."

The Social Security Administration should be able to verify whether they sent Whitman a letter or not. In the past, families who hired domestic help often forgot to pay the FICA payroll tax that pays for Social Security and Medicare.

Bill Maher: GOP Now “Religious Lunatics, Flat-Earthers And Civil War Reenactors”

Mediaite by Ray Rahman | 2:01 pm, September 29th, 2010

In a preview of Bill v. Bill on tonight’s The O’Reilly Factor, Bill Maher and Bill O’Reilly traded hot air over the state of American ideology. In less than a minute, Maher manages to say “the right moved into a mental institution,” claim there is no such thing as liberal extremism, and call Republicans “religious lunatics.”

The comments came in response to O’Reilly’s claim that the Bill Maher of the ’90s program Politically Incorrect was less liberal than the modern Bill Maher of HBO’s Real Time. Maher countered, “The country changed.” He added:

There used to be ideological differences that were understandable, and there used to be moderate Republicans. That has gone away. The Republican Party is now just a bunch of religious lunatics, flat-earthers and Civil War reenactors.

Maher, whom O’Reilly groups with Michael Moore as a member of the “All-American crew” went on to say, “There really isn’t extremism on both sides [of the political spectrum]. That’s a canard.”

Rightrdia agrees. Liberal thought is centrist. It fits in the middle between the extremes of communism and socailsism. liberal thought covers a lot of area in the poltical spectrum. Men like Bill Maher, Michael Moore, Paul Krugman and Alec Baldwin,  all fit in the liberal-progressive political spectrum.

The right wing is all crowded on the right field line with the other neo-fascists like Glen Beck, Sarah Palin, Paul Ryan, Jim DeMint and the Tea Party.

Glen Beck, liability for Fox News

Organizing for America (OFA)  is Obama's political organization. There is hardly anything revolutionary about the OFA. Glen Beck's abrupt jump into socialism had nothing to do with the Obama's call to support the OFA during the mid-term elections. Middle Class Warrior attended an OFA event last week.

According to TYT, Beck has lost more than a third to half of his audience. He has also lost nearly 300 advertisers. Beck also talks about his own Glen Beck enterprises on his show which is irritating the CEO of Fox News, Roger Ailes.

The term Gray Panthers refers to senior citizens who are politically organized.

Glen's show in the Yout|Tube video could be best described as a BS session. Beck is as uninformed as he is unprofessional. He should be fired for such shoddy work.

Newly discovered extra-solar planet may support life

Gliese 581 is a red dwarf star located 20.3 light years away from Earth in the constellation Libra. Its estimated mass is about a third of that of the Sun,

Sol compared to Gliese 581
Observations suggest that the star has at least six planets: Gliese 581 e, b, c, g, d, f. Significantly, planet g is thought to be close to the middle of the star's habitable zone, although it is expected to be tidally locked with one side of the planet always facing the red dwarf.

Astronomers have discovered the first planet outside the solar system with the potential to support life. On 29 September 2010, astronomers at Keck Observatory announced the discovery of Gliese 581 f and Gliese 581 g, both in nearly circular orbits. Gliese 581 g has a mass of 3 to 4 earth-masses, with an orbital period of 37 days, and is at a distance from Gliese 581 that is well within the star's habitable zone.

The planet is predicted to be tidally locked, with one side of the planet always facing the star.

The Gliese 581 solar system would  be very different from the Earth's

US-based scientists found the planet using precise measurements from the Keck telescope in Hawaii, which has been scrutinising Gliese 581 for more than a decade.

The new planet, called Gliese 581g, is one of several known to be orbiting the star, but is the first to be discovered in the so-called Goldilocks Zone, where the distance from the star means that temperatures are neither too hot or too cold for life to exist.

"We had planets on both sides of the habitable zone - one too hot and one too cold - and now we have one in the middle that's just right," Steven Vogt of the University of California, who worked on the team that discovered the planet, said.

Less than 500 planets have been discovered outside of the solar system, and the fact that this one lies in the middle of the Goldilocks Zone suggests that habitable planets could be extremely common.

Relative term

"Nearby" is a relative term in astronomy, where the distances between stars and galaxies are enormous. A light-year is the distance light can travel in one year at a speed of 300,000km a second, or about 10 trillion km. Lying 20 light years from Earth, Gliese 581 is at least 200 trillion km away.

At that distance, it is impossible to make direct observations of planets. Instead, astronomers observe tiny "wobbles" in the star they orbit caused by the gravitational pull of orbiting planets.

The latest discovery has average temperatures averaging from -31 to -12 degrees Celsius. Because the planet does not rotate, one side of it is locked in perpetual darkness and is extremely cold, while the other is always facing its star and is much hotter. The habitable parts of planet are thought to be in the "dusk" areas, where the star would appear low in the sky.

Scientists say if the planet was rocky, like Earth, its gravity would be similar. The temperature would also theoretically allow liquid water to exist on its surface, but the team say they have not detected any evidence of water so far.

This planet would very alien to humans. The light spectrum would be redder and the weather would be unpredictable if the planet is tidally locked. The planet would need water to habitable.

In October 2008, members of the networking website Bebo beamed A Message From Earth, a high-power transmission at Gliese 581 c, using the RT-70 radio telescope belonging to the National Space Agency of Ukraine.

This transmission is due to arrive in the Gliese 581 system's vicinity by the year 2029; the earliest possible arrival for a response, should there be one, would be in 2049.

Both Meg Whtiman and Carly Fiorina are looking like losers

The National Republican Senatorial Committee will not spend $1.9 million that they had originally planned to use on last-minute advertising for California Republican Senate candidate Carly Fiorina according to the Daily Caller.
Boxer, in particular, has done so well that national Democrats have argued that the NRSC's withdrawal of a $1.9 million ad buy for the last week before the Nov. 2 election was a sign that the GOP is giving up on their candidate. Republicans say they merely wanted to give Fiorina flexibility to spend the money around the state and not just in one city.

Fiorina Deputy Campaign Manager Julie Soderlund said in a statement to HuffPost, "It is unfortunate that the Daily Caller would print these falsehoods being perpetuated by Barbara Boxer and her Democratic allies.

There is not one shred of truth to this rumor, the NRSC’s commitment to Carly has not changed and the fact is that this is nothing but wishful thinking on the part of Barbara Boxer who has yet to secure a similar commitment from her own party."

Two recent polls show Boxer with a six to eight point margin. This is not good news for the California GOP.

An immigrant worker just outed California gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman for firing her after she asked for hellped getting papers.

Whitman got upset and let her go. The Republican candidate for governor said, "I don't know you, and you don't know me."

TMZ reported Wednesday that the former housekeeper of plans to make "explosive" allegations against Whitman in a live news conference coming later at 11 AM PT.

The maid is supposedly planning "to tell how she suffered as a long-time, Latina household employee in Meg Whitman's home."

Democrats are going after John Boehner

Last week it was alleged that John Boehner was having an affair with with a printing lobbyist. Now Rightardia got a preview of a DNC anti-Boehner ad. We like it.

We think the state of unemployment, Ohio, will get it, too.

Leader Boehner claims he doesn't use a sun lamp or a cosmetic product to get that sun tanned look. Republicans say Boehner drinks too much and doesn't have a lot of energy.

It is possible that Boehner has Addison's disease or secondary adrenal insufficiency. This would explain his skin color and lack of energy.

John Boehner should release his medical records. As his opponent, Justin Coussoule, put it:

It is a David vs Goliath campaign, although in this case, Goliath is a drunken, orange-tinged golfer whose pockets are bulging with bribe money from Wall Street, Big Pharma, Real Estate interests and Big Tobacco

Most general practice doctors want national health care

Today The Major had a consult with his general practice (GP) doctor. She is a very bright doctor who always gets right to the point.

The doctor mentioned that most GP doctors want national health care because they want to get paid. She indicated that working with numerous insurance companies is difficult and she had to double her staff to chase down insurance claims.

The insurance companies play the same game with doctors that they do with patients, often denying claims because the codes are wrong or the claim was filed too late. She indicated that Medicare and Tricare for military, military dependants and military retirees always pays.

To make matters worse, most of the insurance companies write unique policies with different corporations that have different benefits. This immensely complicates both procedures the doctor can prescribe and the claims process.

The doctor explained that Affordable health Act was just the first step toward national health care. The major agreed and pointed out that Canada has a better health care system than the US and we are tied with Cuba according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

The doctor said the US has the best health care system in the world as long as you can get access.

However, the Major agreed and pointed out that nearly 50 million people don't have access and that is why the WHO has ranked the US as 47th in the world.

Obama was right. The problem with health care in the US is the insurance companies. They are unnecessary middle men who make business tough for doctors and have been denying medical care to Americans for decades.

The first step has been taken to reform the health care system. The effort must continue.

California gubernatorial candidate Queen Meg Whitman mistreated a Hispanic serf

By MICHAEL FALCONE Sept. 29, 2010
Queen Meg Whitman

California gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman today found herself battling allegations that she knowingly employed an undocumented immigrant housekeeper and failed to pay a portion of her wages. Queen Meg then fired  then fired the worker when she became politically inconvenient in an act of political damage control.

At a news conference in Los Angeles on Wednesday organized by celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred, Whitman's former housekeeper and nanny, Nicky Diaz, tearfully recounted how in June 2009 she was suddenly terminated by Whitman and her husband, Griffith Harsh. this was after she she asked the couple for legal help to obtain U.S. citizenship.

Allred also alleged that Whitman became aware of Diaz's undocumented status years earlier, but took no action.

Diaz told reporters that just a few months before Whitman announced she was running for governor as a Republican, the former eBay CEO fired her after nine years spent cleaning the couple's 3,700-square-foot home in an upscale Northern California suburb. Diaz also drove their children to and from school and appointments.

From now on you don't know me and I don't know you," Diaz said Whitman told her in the summer of 2009. "I was shocked and hurt that Ms. Whitman would treat me this way after nine years. I realized at that moment that she didn't appreciate my work. I felt like she was throwing me away like a piece of garbage.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Whitman said, "Nicky had falsified the hiring documents and personal information she provided to the employment agency that brought her to us in 2000." The statement continued, "Nicky told me that she was admitting her deception now because she was aware that her lie might come out during the campaign."

Could this be a Democratic Dirty Trick (DDT) on Whitman? Rightardia sure hopes so. Billionaires are fair game. It looks like the Democrats have released the hounds.

Perhaps this is why Rahm Emmanuel is leaving the White House.

TMZ update:

Meg Whitman's rival Jerry Brown is wasting no time making on  Whtiman's undocumented worker scandal -- saying the former maid has a "compelling story."

The Democratic candidate for governor of California said he wants Nicky Diaz Santillan to be "treated with respect and dignity as this story unfolds."

Brown added:

After more than a year of Whitman demanding immigration policy that 'holds employers accountable,' we learn that accountability doesn't extend to her own actions.

Right-wing media's selective outrage over Nazi references

Rightardia has never understood why progressives and liberals are reluctant to use the f-word: fascism while Democrat have been erroneously called socialists for years. Republican ideas, are, in fact, often undistinguishable from the fascist ideas of World War 2.

NAACP President Ben Jealous: Our Jewish friends sitting around saying this is too much like the period before Kristallnacht. And old black folks sitting around going, I don't know if this is more like when my granddaddy told me about the end of Reconstruction or what I witnessed with the rise of the White Citizens Council.

Beck's website hyped the video, claiming Jealous said "America like Before Kristallnacht." On September 27, Glenn Beck's website, The Blaze, posted the video of Jealous' comments under the headline, "NAACP: One Nation March About Not Calling Obama an African Witch Doctor, America like Before Kristallnacht."

Beck then airs Jealous clip, asks, "Who's calling whom Hitler?" On the September 27 edition of his radio show, Beck played a clip of Jealous' comments and stated, "So he's talking about that there are people who want to purge people - that the Jews are saying, oh, I don't know what's happening, I guess with the tea parties - is too much like Kristallnacht. Who's calling whom Hitler?"

Right-wing media have long history of invoking Nazi references to attack Obama and his policies as well as progressive figures. Right-wing media figures - led by Beck -- have a long history of invoking the Holocaust, the Nazi Party, and Adolf Hitler to smear the Obama administration, other progressive individuals and organizations. For instance:

Beck: Holocaust survivor's story of how Nazis drove a wedge between students and parents sounds like U.N. and Gore. On the September 24 edition of his Fox News show, Beck hosted a Holocaust survivor who said that the Nazis drove a wedge between students and their parents. . .

Beck: Progressives use "democratic elections" to push dictators -- "Hitler, 'democratically elected.' " On the April 28 edition of his Fox News show, Beck stated that progressives use "democratic elections" to push dictators, then stated, "You'll hear this when they talk about the 'democratically elected' leader of Iran; the democratic leader Chavez, 'democratically elected,' you know; Castro, 'democratically elected'; Hitler - 'democratically elected.' "

Beck: "Progressives build the structure that a communist, a Marxist, a Nazi would love to have." On the April 22 edition of his radio show, Beck stated that "[p]rogressives build the structure that a communist, a Marxist, a Nazi would love to have."

Beck invokes Nazis to attack worker ID cards: "It was only one of the first things that Hitler did." On the March 9 edition of his radio show, Beck discussed national ID cards for workers and said, "It was only one of the first things that Hitler did."

Beck on Obama's "civilian national security force": "This is what Hitler did with the SS." Discussing President Obama's call for a "civilian national security force" -- which was a reference to expanding the foreign service, AmeriCorps, and the Peace Corps -- Beck said on the August 27, 2009, edition of his Fox News program:

Beck: "I'm not comparing" Obama to Hitler, but asked his audience to "please read Mein Kampf" and learn from Germany's mistakes. On the August 12, 2009, broadcast of his radio show, discussing Obama's position on health care reform, Beck stated:

Beck told Newsmax: "I fear a Reichstag moment." On September 29, 2009, conservative news website Newsmax.com reported of its interview with Beck:

Beck links health care reform to Nazis, suggests reform would kill elderly and newborns. On his August 6, 2009, radio show, Beck suggested that health care reform would lead to the eugenics programs undertaken in Nazi Germany, saying that "three people in the White House are in love with eugenics" and that reform would kill the elderly and newborns.
Beck's comment on Nazi health care is clearly propaganda. The Germans had the first health care system in Europe in the 1890's. A conservative leader, Otto von Bismarck, established the German health care system.

Beck compared car dealership closures to Nazism, warning "at some point, they're going to come for you." While discussing the closures of auto dealerships under the bankruptcy deals of GM and Chrysler, Beck said that the "poem that keeps going through my mind is 'First they came for the Jews,' " adding, "Gang, at some point they're going to come for you."

Beck compared auto bailouts to the actions of German companies "in the early days of Adolf Hitler."

While discussing the auto company bailouts on the April 1, 2009, edition of his Fox News program, after stating, "I am not saying that Barack Obama is a fascist," Beck said, "If I'm not mistaken, in the early days of Adolf Hitler, they were very happy to line up for help there as well. I mean, the companies were like, 'Hey, wait a minute. We can get, you know, we can get out of trouble here. They can help, et cetera, et cetera.' "

And so forth and so on . . .

Newt Gingrich: Obama, Dems threatening America as much as "Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union once did." On the May 16 edition of Fox Broadcasting Co.'s Fox News Sunday, Fox News contributor Newt Gingrich said that Obama and Democratic policies threaten America as much as "Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union once did."

Limbaugh compares Obama health care plan to Nazi policies. On the October 1, 2009, edition of his radio show, Rush Limbaugh stated of Obama's health care plan: "Just as Obama's doing, Hitler - well, even prior to Hitler, German socialists attempted to remake and order their country using health care as the springboard and the foundation. Same thing that's happening here."

Limbaugh continued: "Hitler was a man of the left. Nazi is simply the term for the National Socialists of Germany. ... The National Socialists and their domestic policies - short of the Holocaust - have far more in common with what Obama's doing than anybody on the right."
Again, Htilter was neither a leftist or a socialist. The German socialists wing of the NAZI party was primarily the SA that was led by Ernst Röhm. These were the original brown shirts that Hilter had eliminated during Kristallnacht. Hitler outlawed trade unions and lowered workers' wages. He militarized the economy with the help of German corporations. His government embraced fascist values and religion as a reaction to Russian communism. The Germans painted Teutonic crosses on their aircraft and tanks.

The primary reason the Nazis came to power was because the fragmented left made up of communists and social democrats, who wouldn't work with each other. Also, Germany went into a depression after Wall Street crashed and US banks would no longer loan the Germans money.

If you look around America, progressives and liberals aren't showing up with weapons at political rallies or forming militias. Progressives aren't waving false yellow flags with rattle snakes on them. Nor are progressives fanning the fires of racism against blacks and Hispanics. We agree with Ben Jealous. He made an astute observation.

Mr. Burns endorses Slick Rick Scott for Florida governor

Slick Rick Scott?

No, it's Mr. Burns. Rightardia interviewsed Mr. Burns of Homer Simpson fame and asked him about the Florida governor"s race.

Mr. Burn's said he really thought Slick Rick Scott was 'excellent.'

Burns' trademark expression is the word "Excellent", muttered slowly in a low, sinister voice while tenting his fingertips in a gesture of superiority.

Mr. Burns is the intensely evil owner of the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant and is Homer Simpson's boss.

Although originally conceived as a one-dimensional, recurring villain who might occasionally enter the Simpsons' lives and wreak some sort of havoc, Burns' popularity has led to his repeated inclusion in episodes.
Mr. Burns or Slick Rick Scott?

Like Slick Rick, Mr. Burns is a caricature of Corporate America in his unquenchable desire to increase his own wealth and power, inability to remember his employees' names - including Homer's.

Like Slick Rick, Mr. Burns lacks of concern for their safety and well-being of his health care patients and employees.

Scott's political campaign is off kilter and unfocused. He thinks he is running against President Obama.

Although the Florida governor's mansion and statehouse has been dominated by Republicans for the past 12 years, Scott thinks Florida's economic ills are caused by Washington.

Florida's economic problems started because the state is heavily dependent on tourism. When gas prices rose during the Bush administration, it knocked the bottom out of the tourism industry. Thousands of low paying jobs disappeared.

Burns frequently orders Smithers to "release the hounds", so as to let his vicious guard dogs attack any intruders, enemies or even invited guests like Alex Sink or others who might be black, migrants, union organizers or progressives.

Burns has lived a life of privilege and would amuse himself by injuring immigrant laborers.

Mr. Burns is Springfield's richest and most powerful citizen; his current net worth has been given as $996 million. So he is worth about the same as Slick Rick.

He uses his power and wealth to do whatever he wants, usually without regard for consequences and without interference from the authorities. These qualities led Wizard Magazine to rate him the 45th greatest villain of all time.

Does Florida need someone like Mr. Burns as governor. You've got to be kidding! Even the Florida Republicans are afraid of this shark, Slick Rick Scott.

Bill Maher: BLOGGA PLEASE September 25, 2010 Zingers

Saturday, September 25, 2010 QUOTES FROM “REAL TIME WITH BILL MAHER" Sept. 24, 2010
Following are quotables from “Real Time with Bill Maher” for Friday, September 24th, 2010. “Real Time with Bill Maher” airs Fridays at 10:00PM ET (10:00PM PT, tape delayed) on HBO, with additional replays throughout the week on HBO and HBO 2.

There’s nothing about what really, you know, is bothering people, especially on that side of the aisle, how to cut the deficit or decrease spending, it’s just about kicking out Mexicans, keeping Guantanamo open, getting rid of health insurance for sick kids, you know, feel-good stuff.

- Bill Maher, in his opening monologue, regarding the Republicans “Pledge to America”

It was a very good week for getting absolutely nothing done in Congress. They blocked, the Republicans did, the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. We thought this was going to be a done deal. I don’t know what their problem is with Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. Even if it is repealed, there will still be a major American institution where gays are still forced to hide in shame and secrecy: The Republican party.

- Bill Maher, in his opening monologue

They’re giving up on their tax cuts for the middle class until after the election. … Have they seen the polls? Planning to do this after the election. This is like a condemned man asking for a doggie bag at the last meal.

- Bill Maher, in his opening monologue

Christine O’Donnell in Delaware … There are a lot of questions now about her use of campaign funds and not paying her taxes and not paying her mortgage. And on top of that, some asshole outed her as a witch.

- Bill Maher, in his opening monologue

Let me just say to the Wiccans, who are the witch people out there, cause they’re on my case: It wasn’t me, Wiccans, who conflated witches with Satanic stuff, that was Christine did that. I know that Satan worshippers and witches are not the same thing. So please, change my assistant back into a human. Would ya please? It’s funny for a while, but chickens can’t type.

- Bill Maher, in his opening monologue

The one thing that’s definitely true is there’s certainly a cover-up. I mean, I wouldn’t speak on whether they had some CIA operative waiting in a bush to shoot his ass … I think it’s criminal for sure.

- Richard Tillman, brother of killed soldier Pat Tillman, about his brother’s death

What’s the morality of passing legislation that is now keeping businesses from hiring new employees and not offering jobs that would even give the healthcare coverage.

- Amy Holmes, regarding healthcare reform

We don’t need those tax cuts … I personally don’t need those tax cuts.

- Seth MacFarlane, regarding repealing the Bush tax cuts for the rich

The American people didn’t have the ability to debate the issue … They didn’t debate it for a year. People said we will not talk about it with you. They shoved union members into the front of the town halls. They beat people up.

- Andrew Breitbart, regarding healthcare reform

When we invaded Iraq, we invited the UK to come fight with us. We invited France. We invited Germany. Every one of those armies had openly gay soldiers serving in the military. The only other country that didn’t, besides us, was the Iraqi army.

- Seth MacFarlane

Clip from “Politically Incorrect 10/15/98

Panel: Christine O’Donnell, Dee Snider, John Fugelsang, Eddie McClurg.

Christine O’Donnell: You know what evolution, evolution is a myth. Even Darwin himself…

Maher: Evolution is a myth? Have you ever looked at a monkey?

O’Donnell: Then why aren’t they, why aren’t monkeys still evolving into humans.?

John Fugelsang: It takes a long time.

- Clip is available upon request

New Rule: Never let your children take an overnight trip with a holy man who wears more than two pieces of jewelry. Atlanta’s gay-bashing Bishop Eddie Long has been accused of buying cars for teenage boys, then inviting them to New Zealand and molesting them, in what authorities are calling “the worst Oprah surprise of all time.”

Which leads me to: New Rule: If your minister says being gay is bad, or a sin, or an evil temptation, or has any opinion on it stronger than “who gives a shit,” your minister is gay.

- Bill Maher in his “New Rules” segment

New Rule: If they’re going to make a historical epic, full of British actors, in period costumes, about Queen Elizabeth helping her father get over his speech impediment, why bother having the Oscars at all? You win. Unless someone in America is making a movie where Meryl Streep teaches Anne Frank how to box, we give up.

- Bill Maher in his “New Rules” segment

This week's guests were Richard Tillman, Andrew Breitbart, Amy Holmes, Seth MacFarlane, and Ann Druyan.

Republican Dirty Tricks: Republicans vote to continue to offshore job tax cuts

by Taradacktyl

Proving once again that Republicans are waging a class war against the working people of America, the GOP today stopped a vote that would end the tax breaks for corporations who outsource jobs to other countries.

In the midst of the second Republican-policy-induced economic collapse in a century, all Republicans along with a handful of Democrat in Name Only (DINO) co-conspirators (Sens. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.), Jon Tester (D-Mont.) and Mark Warner (D-Va.) and Max Baucus (D-Mont.)., voted to ensure that the price of labor is devalued by forcing the American worker to compete for jobs with Chinese slaves.

Normal people (non-Republicans) are aware that the Republican agenda can be broken down to two words – CHEAP LABOR . . .

In the meantime, the Republican plutocrats were confident this job-killing vote would not penetrate the skulls of the willfully-ignorant “average Joe” followers, who will continue to vote for Republicans to turn them into compliant serfs due to the fact they have been thoroughly propagandized by transnational corporation’s propaganda outlet, Fox News.

These right wing sheeple believe anything less than complete corporate enslavement has something to do with Hitler, or Stalin, or a Mosque 2 blocks away from Ground Zero, or Barack Obama’s birth certificate.

With the economy and jobs being the number one concern for Americans, the Republican obstructionists in Congress continue to support their well-healed benefactors on Wall Street while demanding those unlucky enough to find themselves on the losing end of 30 years of failed Republican economic ideology get off their lazy asses, pull themselves up by their bootstraps, and marry a beer heiress.

Rightrdia  likes RDT. Taradactyl has a lot of attitude.

WH Blog: A Living-Room Discussion with Middle Class Families

Posted by Jared Bernstein on September 28, 2010 at 6:52 PM EDT

Yesterday, Vice President Biden visited the home of Bob and Lorie Cochran in Manchester, New Hampshire for a discussion on the economy and other issues that are important to middle class families.

The Cochrans were kind enough to host a small group of their neighbors and other families from Manchester.

You might have seen the President leading similar discussions over the last few weeks – it’s all about hearing directly from the American people about how things are going on Main Street and the concerns they’re facing as they sit around their kitchen tables.

We’ve been calling these events “backyard discussions,” but the weather didn’t cooperate yesterday.  It started raining as soon as we arrived in New Hampshire, so we all had to move inside to the Cochrans’ living room.

Fortunately, the grim weather didn’t put a damper on our conversation.  After some brief opening remarks by the Vice President, we launched right into a great discussion, with the audience asking about the steps we’re taking to create jobs and get our economy moving again.

The Vice President took the opportunity to discuss our agenda for creating jobs, including more tax cuts for small businesses that want to expand and hire, infrastructure investment to build on the momentum of the Recovery Act, preserving tax cuts for the middle class, making college more affordable, and reducing health care costs while protecting health care consumers.

As you’d expect in a political season in a highly politically engaged state, other questioners asked about the upcoming midterm elections.

And on that subject, Vice President Biden stressed the stark choice voters will face on November 2: will we continue moving forward, building on our economic progress, making sure that insurance companies and banks are playing by the new rules of the road, and pursuing a policy agenda focused on the prosperity of the middle class?

Or will we hit reverse and go back to the failed, discredited economic policies set that got us into this mess?

Will we rescind and repeal the progress we’ve made to end abuses by insurance companies and big banks, stop rebuilding America’s vital infrastructure, and go back to slashing taxes for millionaires and billionaires with no regard for the fiscal consequences?

From where we stand, the choice is clear.  Vice President Biden ended the conversation by stressing just how high the stakes are, and how important it is that every American citizen stays engaged in this debate in the weeks ahead.

From what I could tell as I looked on from the kitchen, no one disagreed.

Jared Bernstein is Chief Economic Advisor to the Vice President

WMR: Ed Miliband, Britsh Labor Party's first Jewish leader, has some in Israel worried

Wayne Madsen Report September 27, 2010

Ed Miliband, UK Labour Leader

September 27, 2010
-- Ed Miliband, Britsh Labor Party's first Jewish leader, has some in Israel worried.

The election of Ed Miliband, Tony Blair's one-time Energy Minister and London School of Economics alumnus, as leader of the British Labor Party, and hence, Leader of the Opposition of Great Britain, over his more pro-Israeli brother, former Blair Foreign Secretary David Miliband, clearly has some Israeli leaders concerned.

Marion Kozak, the Miliband brothers' mother, is a supporter of Jews for Justice for Palestinians (JJP), which has dispatched an aid ship from Northern Cyprus to break the Israeli blockade of Gaza. Kozak's support for the Palestinians cause has sent the Israeli media and leadership into a frenzy over the "left-wing" affiliations of Kozak and her son, Labor's first Jewish leader. JJP also favors negotiations between Israel and Hamas, as well as the freeing of all Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli prisons.

WMR can also report that informed sources have told us that Ed Miliband is no great fan of Newscorp chief Rupert Murdoch, whose global media empire takes a decidedly neo-conservative stance and aggressively supports Israel. A number of pro-Israeli Jewish members of Parliament cast their votes for David Miliband.

Ed Miliband edged out his brother by a mere 1.3 per cent of the vote in the September 25 election for leader of the Labor Party. Ed, the younger of the two brothers, won with the strong backing of British labor unions. Unlike Blair and his brother David, Ed Miliband is seen as representing the left of the Labor Party.

However, not everyone is trusting of the new Labor Party leader and it will remain to be seen if Ed Miliband's leftist rhetoric will be transformed into policy should he ever be elected British Prime Minister.

Like his brother David, Ed supported the Blair government's introduction of the British national identification card later scrapped by the new Tory-Liberal Democratic coalition government. Ed Miliband also promised to find a significant role for his more Zionist-oriented brother David in Labor's shadow cabinet.

Another worrying sign for those who believe Ed Miliband's left-wing credentials may be a clever ruse to gain power, along with his sibling, over the Labor Party, is his reaction to anti-war protesters in Birmingham in April 2009.

Ed Miliband bought into the prevailing 9/11 conspiracy theory and, according to the Birmingham Evening Mail, replied to protesters: "9/11 happened first, 3,000 people lost their lives that day in an attack we know was launched from training camps in Afghanistan. We had to ensure the safety of people in this country. There are many in Afghanistan who are appreciative, girls who can go to school, and people who have had the chance to vote."

The brothers Miliband are the sons of Ralph Miliband, a Polish Jewish Marxist theoretican who fled from from Belgium to Britain during World War II. While in Belgium, Ralph Miliband was active in the Zionist Hashomer Hatzair movement.

Rightardia Florida general election endorsements

Rightardia endorses Kendrick Meek for the US Senate. We like Independent Charlie Crist, a long time Floridian politician, too. As long as Marco Rubio is defeated, we will be pleased.

Alex Sink is beating Slick Rick Scott, the billionaire with a chequered past, in the polls. Neither Republicans or Democrats trust Slick Rick.
Dan Gelber, Democratic candidate for Attorney General

Dan Gelber is clearly the most qualified candidate for Attorney General. This one is a no-brainer.

We support Charlie Justice for the Congressional District 10 seat.  His opponent, CW Bill Young, is running for 20th term in the House. So much for term limits.

As Republicans go, we like Bill Young a lot. He has done many wonderful things for District 10, but some fresh blood in needed in Washington.

We also endorse Loranne Ausley for CFO (treasurer)and Scott Maddox for Commissioner of Agriculture.

In Pinellas County, we endorse Tom McKone for the District 48 state representative seat.

We did research all of the State Supreme Court and District Court judges. All should be retained.

Regarding the State Constitutional amendments:  No. 1 would eliminate public financing for candidates. Rightrdia  thinks that is undemocratic. See http://rightardia.blogspot.com/2010/09/ballotpedia-newspaper-endorsements-of.html

We don't support amendment No. 2 either. The state doesn't need to cut taxes for deployed military people while they are laying off state employees.

Amendment No. 4 is opposed by most Florida newspapers. There seems to be almost universal agreement that this is a bad amendment.

Since 2002 the GOP has tried to change the class size amendment on numerous occasions and failed. This is one more attempt. Vote 'no" on amendment number 8. The statehouse needs to read the public's lips!

Number 9 is a non-binding state-wide political statement that should not be on the ballot. Vote 'no' on this meaningless referendum.

Marco Rubio flip-flops on Social Security

Posted Sep 27, 2010 by William March Updated Sep 27, 2010 at 02:17 PM
Marco Rubio’s change in position on privatization of Social Security was “a conclusion based on extensive study of the fiscal impact,” not a flip-flop intended to win votes, his campaign press spokesman said today.

Responding to an earlier post, spokesman Alex Burgos also said Rubio’s stance opposing privatization isn’t new—he’s been saying it since March.

Rubio has criticized Crist almost daily for a year as a politician “who will say or do anything to win an election” and flip-flops repeatedly.

Floridians “don’t want just another politician who breaks their pledges depending on their poll numbers,” said Alex Burgos, Rubio for Senate spokesman, in one of scores of such news releases.

But Burgos said Rubio’s shift is different, even though Rubio also signed a pledge last year to support partial privatization, which he now no longer honors.

Last September, appearing on conservative radio host Laura Ingraham’s show, Rubio agreed to sign her 10-point pledge including No. 8 on Social Security, labeled “End Generational Theft.”

“As few believe America’s entitlement programs will be able to pay benefits to future generations,” the pledge says, signers promise to “provide younger workers the choice of diverting payroll/Social Security taxes into personal retirement accounts.”

Rubio's position is idealogical because entitlements like Social Security and Medicare contribute around 10 per cent to the deficit. The big deficit buster was the Bush tax cuts--48 per cent and defence spending --35 per cent. Rubio is unlikely to support any cuts in defence spending or to let the Bush tax cuts expire.

Mediaite: Cenus finds huge wealth gap between rich and poor

The Census Bureau released new data today that suggests a deepening divide between the countries wealthiest citizens and its poorest. According to census statistics, the United States has the greatest disparity between “rich” and “poor” among Western industrialized nations, which spawned commentary from Rachel Maddow via Twitter.

The recession took a dramatic toll on the institution of marriage in America last year, new figures show, with weddings for people 18 and older at the lowest ebb in over a hundred years.

A broad array of new Census Bureau data released Tuesday

Writing for the Associated Press, Hope Yen reported:

The government already had revealed that the income gap between the richest and poorest Americans grew last year by the largest margin ever, stark evidence of the impact the long recession starting in 2007 has had in upending lives and putting the young at greater risk.

The top-earning 20 percent of Americans — those making more than $100,000 each year — received 49.4 percent of all income generated in the U.S., compared with the 3.4 percent earned by those below the poverty line, according to the newly released Census figures. That ratio of 14.5-to-1 was an increase from 13.6 in 2008 and nearly double a low of 7.69 in 1968.

A different measure, the international Gini index or the Gini coefficient, found U.S. income inequality at its highest level since the Census Bureau began tracking household income in 1967. The U.S. also has the greatest disparity among Western industrialized nations.

The disparity in US income is well-known, but the wealth differential is far worse. The US GINI index is 46.8 in 2008. Any index more than .40 can lead to social instability. The GINI index in EU countries is estimated to average .31.

The Federal Income Tax can control income disparity and the Estate Tax can mitigate wealth disparity. Republicans have traditionally tried to flatten the progressive income tax that is now less than 40 per cent for the top tax bracket. GWB also suspended the Estate Tax that only affects the top 5,000 American families.

Because of regressive GOP tax policy, the middle class had been weakened since the Reagan era and some business people are realizing that tax breaks won't help them if they lose their middle class customer base. Of course, Blue Dog Democrats have worked with Republicans so the Democratic Party is not blameless either. Bill Clinton could have also done more to reverse this trend, but he didn't.

It is obvious that GOP ideas and supply side economics will not work in the present economic environment. Giving millionaires $100,000 a year tax breaks will damage the economy further.

Haaretz: Atheists, Jews top U.S. religious knowledge survey

Atheists and agnostics topped a survey of religious knowledge among Americans released on Tuesday by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life.

"On average, Americans correctly answer 16 of the 32 religious knowledge questions on the survey. Atheists and agnostics average 20.9 ... Jews and Mormons do about as well, averaging 20.5 and 20.3 correct answers," Pew said.

It found Protestants answered 16 correctly and Catholics on average 14.7.

On questions about the Bible and Christianity, Mormons and white evangelical Protestants scored the highest, while Jews, atheists and agnostics trumped the other faiths on their knowledge of Buddhism, Hinduism and Judaism. Pew said:

While previous surveys by the Pew Research Center have shown that America is among the most religious of the world's developed nations, this survey shows that large numbers of Americans are not well informed about the tenets, practices, history and leading figures of major faith traditions . . .

Click here to see the U.S. Religious Knowledge Survey.

Highlights of the survey include:

* More than four-in-10 Catholics do not know that their church teaches that the bread and wine used in Communion actually become the body and blood of Christ.
* About half of Protestants cannot correctly identify Martin Luther as the person who sparked the Protestant Reformation.
* Less than half identified Buddhism as the Dalai Lama's religion, 51 percent knew that Joseph Smith was Mormon and 54 percent correctly said the Koran is the Islamic holy book. More than 80 percent knew that Mother Teresa was Catholic.
* Nine-in-10 Americans know U.S. Supreme Court rulings do not allow teachers to lead public school classes in prayer. But two-thirds incorrectly said Supreme Court rulings prevent them from using the Bible as an example of literature.
